Urban Renewal II
I grew up in a crumbling Brooklyn neighborhood that has begun a slow and shaky comeback. This piece is inspired by the new life and energy that's started to spread through the streets and buildings that were so much of a part of my past.
Materials: Burnout velvet, organza, silk, scrim and cotton fabric; polyester batting; cotton and polyester thread; embroidery floss; textile paint.
Techniques: fused appliqué, machine pieced and quilted; hand painted and embroidered.
