Havdalah I

Performed each Saturday at nightfall, Havdalah marks the transition from the Jewish Sabbath into the secular week ahead.  In this piece, bright golden yellow fabrics give way to dark blues and greens.  This represents the hope that the healing peace of Sabbath “light” will penetrate into the world’s darkness, ignorance, and suffering.

Materials: commercial cotton, velvet, organza, nylon fabrics; cotton batting, cotton and polyester thread

Techniques: fused appliqué, machine pieced and quilted
